CAR BLOWN INTO RIVER
FORCE OP WIND IN GORGE. A REMARKABLE ACCIDENT. A remarkable accident occurred between 10.30 and 11 o'clock on Monday night on tho road near the Ballanco bridge, when a five-soater light car was blown over the cliff into 35 feet of water. The driver was Mr McCool, of Tararua, and he had sot out to crank the car up after the engine had stopped, when a gust lifted the vehicle literally out of his hand and hauled it into the river below. A follow traveller, who was just in advance of Mr McCool, seeing that he had not crossed the bridge, wont back to investigate, and found the owner without his car. It was fortunate that Mr McCool was out of the car at the time, as his additional weight would have been quite ineffective in holding his motor to the road. Those who know tho fury with which the wind tears through at this point will have no difficulty in realising the possibility of such an accident happening at any time. The car has not yet been recovered.
