Angry scenes at a London Combination fotoball match at Southend were followed by a crowd of about 2000 laying siege to the players’ dreasingIroom. The match was between the reserve teams of Southend United and Tottenham Hotspur. 1)1-feeling was shown early in the game and increased when Hargreaves, one of the Hotspur forwards, was involved in a “mix-up” with some spectators. It is alleged that the referee was struck on the head by a spctator’s stick. When the crowd swarmed round the dressing room entrance the Hotspur players were got away through a window at the back of the building.
