SWIMMING BATHS EFFORT. [From Our Own Correspondent.] A general meeting of thos e Interested in tile formation of a swimming baths was hold on Tuesday night. Present: Messrs. M. E. Perrcau (in th e chair), F. Mason, C. Proctor, R. Warwick, Jno. Ross, K. E. Admore, I’’. Woods, K. McMurray, E. Healey, .1. K. Hornblow, and the organiser (Mr. V. Delaney). The chairman said the meeting was called because the Racing Club Had not accepted the terms offered in including it in the proposed art union and it was now necessary to make other arrangements.

The organiser read the following letter from the Racing Club:— In reference to the proposal that the Racing Club should join your organisation in promoting an art union for swimming baths and spoilts purposes, my committee has decided it can lake no action in the matter top the reason that the scheme submitted is not considered satisfactory. The letter was received, and It was decided that the previous motion for the,allocation of funds over and above that for the baths, be rescinded, ana that th 0 following be the allocation: Swimming baths, first £2OOO. Balance: Easton Park 20 per cent, Victoria Park 20 per cent.. Bowling duo 20 per cent., Tennis Club 20 per cent. Other sports bodies, 20 per cem. Th e chairman reported that it had been published that the land given by the Native owners for swimming baths was to be used for the District High School and to this statement the owners of the land had taken exception. They would not entertain any other proposal than that for which the land was given swimming baths in which the children are to participate. The sections so donated would not bo used for any purpose other than swimming baths. On the matter of raising the prize money, the chairman pointed ou;t tnat it was necessary to hav 0 the value m gold in the Bank. He had approached several townspeople for assistance and all had signified their willingness to do so. The matter was left in trio hands of the Mayor and organiser. On the motion of Messrs. Woods and Mason, it was decided that on the money being lodged, the organiser go straight ahead with the art union, those who guaranteed the money Being added to the committee, and mat G per cent, interest be paid to them. £IOO was premised by one gentleman in the room.

Mr. P. Woods was appointed treasurer and the Mayor, treasurer and organiser were authorised to operate the account. Messrs. R. Warwick, J. K. Hornblow and E. Healey wcr e added to the committee. The organiser reported that the proprietor of the Royal Theatre, Mr. H. Hamer, had offered to put ins theatre at Ithe disposal of th 0 comniittec for one night, free of charge, —Mr. Hamer was thanked. Health Camp at Levin. The health camp at Levin was concluded on Tuesday, the children ana staff leaving by the afternoon tram for Wellington. The weather through, out has been good and th e children’s appearance testifies to the success ot this effort on their behalf.
