POLICE AND BY-LAW CASES. i In the Palmerston North Magi- . strate’s Court yesterday, before Mr . J. L. Stout, S.M., the following cases wore dealt with;— .Sydney Chas. Chapman and .Tack Stevenson, charged with carrying .passengers oil the rear of motorcycles, were convicted and fined £1 and costs 7s. For exceeding the speed limit In a motor-car and turning a corner incorrectly, Mervyn Needham was fined £2 on the first charge and 10s on the second, with 7s costs in each case. A. de Bathe Brandon, for allowing a car to remain standing unattended for longer than ten minutes other than on an appointed stand, and for failing to have lights on same,, was fined 10s on the first charge and £1 on the second, costs totalling 14s. Mouston Henderson was fined 10s with costs 2s for cycling at night without a light. Patrick Brady, charged with procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order, and also with being on licensed premises during the currency of such order was fined £1 and costs. Speeding in Gorge. For exceeding the speed limit of 15 miles per hour through the Manawatu Gorge: James Muir (Dannevirke), A. John Burchell (Wanganui), Albert J. Devonshire (Foxton), James Burr (Palmerston North), Cedric S. Finn (Palmerston North), Albert Alien (Gisborne). Ernest A. Twlgg (Feilding), Bert Galloway (Shannon), Ray Bailey (Feilding), Richard Jones (Wellington), Ivor Watkins (Levin) were fined £5 with costs £1 Bs. Paul Hansen, who pleaded not guilty, was fined £5 with costs £3 3s. Maintenance Case. James Henry Pooley, for failing to keep up the payments on a maintenance order of 5s per week in respect of his child, was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment, the order to be suspended so long as he complied with the terms of the order, and paid off the arrears of £42 15s, at the rate of 2s 6d per week.
