COMPENSATION FOR POWER LINES

>—~—■ LITTLE REGARD SHOWN BY DEPARTMENT ONE SHILLING OFFERED At the monthly meeting of the Cambridge Branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, Mr. .D. Ariell asked the Union to support him in his protest to the Public Works Department against them taking power lines .through his property. Mr. Ariell stated that the Department intended placing on his property nine wlooden poles, five stefel towers, also telephone poles. The Department had offered him compensation to the extent of one shilling.

Mr. S. H. Judd said the thing was a scandal. He knew of one case where a beautiful lawsoniana hedge had been cut down for about two chains, when the route could have easily been altered to avoid it.

Members were unanimously of the opinion that this branch should take the matter up, and a sub-committee was sot up with power to act to go into the matter.
