FAILING TO ATTEND PARADE
SAULTARY SENTENCE PASSED.
Leo Maurice Denman is one of the quota of Palmerston North's territorial force t and according to the evidence unfolded at the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, has not taken kindly to discipline. His chosen form of insubordination was to appear on parade without his unifom —when he did appear—and to take a prominent part in any larrikinism that was going. Such was the evidence of StaffSergeant Harvey, who prosecuted on behalf of the Defence Department. The Insubordination complained of, he stated, extended over a period ot 12 mohths, during which Denman’s conduct had been generally unsatisfactory. When he had turned up without his uniform, he had explained that it was too small, although this was proved to be untrue. Further, on a recent night in March, Denman had been the ringleader ot a band of youths who had thrown stones at passing motor-cars, when some damage had been done. As the result of his conduct Denman had missed seven night drills and several haif-day parades. Denman, who was a rather stu-pid-looking lad of 19, pleaded guilty and was fined £2 on both charges of insubordination, and of falling to attend parades, with costs 16s.
