MANAWATU DRAINAGE BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Manawatu Drainage Board was held yesterday when Trustee E. Wood occupied the chair. Other members present were Trustees D. Collis, H. J. Burrell, J. Collis, E. W. I. Collins and N. P. Keilscn. Correspondence.

lit reply to the Board’s enquiry regarding Carmody’s drain, the Department of Lands and Survey adI vised that it did not know of the existence of such a drain, for there was no indication of the drain, neither in the plans of the department nor in those of the Land Transfer Office. The titles of the sections had also been searched but no reference was made therein of any drain. The chairman thought it a strange thing that the Board had under its control a drain for which It had no easement and inquired when the drain had been constructed. Mr D. Collis stated that the drain had been made under the jurisdiction of the Aorangi Board some 25 years ago, but under the Drainage Act the Board was hi charge. The clerk (Mr F. W. Connell) stated there must be many drains in the district that the Board did not have the titles for. The letter was merely received.

The State Advances Office advised that the Board’s application for an Order-in-Council for a loan of £SOOO had been received, and when the matter had been gazetted the Board would be duly advised.—The clerk pointed out that the loan was for the widening of the outlet and erection of floodgates at Rangiotu. Oversocr!s Report.

The overseer, Mr W. J. Coman, reported that: —Messrs Terry and Larsen have completed lower portion of Burke’s drain and Mr F. Wilson would be finished with the upper portion of Burke’s drain in about a week, while Messrs Plill and Walker had completed about two miles of Main drain. Since the last meeting the overseer had let the following drains: —No. 1 Aorangi drain to Mr D. Plolland; top portion Burke’s drain to F. Wilson; No. 1 Line drain to F. Wilson; Boundary drain to Terry and Larsen. Day labour. —Completed about 75 chains of the Taonui stream and Blackmore’s drain would be finished this week. The gang had completed 60 chains of Johnston’s drain and 2S chains of Burrell’s drain.—Adopted. General.

It was reported by Mr J. Collis that Whisky’s creek required cleaning and after some discussion it was decided to call tenders for that portion between the Main drain at Rongotea road. It was decided that day labour clean out the top portion of Whisky Creek and that portion of Mitchell’s creek from Hugh’s road to Rangitikei line.
