ROSES FOR ROSE

DOUBLE WIN AT EKETAHUNA, [Per Press Association.] EKETAHUNA, Last Night. There was a record attendance at the amateur athletic sports to-day. Rose made his last appearance before leaving on tour, but having travelled right through from Christchurch, was not in his best form. Neither did ho meet a high enough standard to extend him. He competed in and won the mile in 4.35, and the half-mile from the ton-yard mark in 2.3 1-5. In the mile ho was never extended, and won comfortably by fifteen yards. In the halfmile, which was not his distance, he passed the second and third men in a great spurt and won right on the tape.

A sale of roses in aid of the fund for his tour realised £27 Is. These sold out early in the afternoon and then subscription lists were opened.
