Cabinet resigned following a vote in the Chamber of 274 to 221, separating- lax payments from the Finance Hill, which the Government had made a question of confidence. “SOMETHING ROTTEN IN STATE OF FRANCE.” (Received Monday, 12,30 a.m.) PARIS, March 6. The defeat of .the Government is attributed to the action of a number cf moderates, who misinterpreted an inoffensive remark passed by M. Briand to an Oppositionist, who announced hte intention to support the Government. BRIAND GOES TO GENEVA. UNABLE TO PLEDGE FRANCE. LONDON March C. Sir Austen Chamberlain and other delegates have departed for Geneva. M. Briand accompanies him from Paris to attend the preliminary conversation, but not to participate in official deliberations, taking up the standpoint that, since defeated in the Chamber, he is unable to pledge tins French Government.
