PALMERSTON LICENSING COMMITTEE
WHO MAY .-VOTE -AT ELECTION
It Six nominations having been received for the live seats' on the Palmerston Licensing Committee, an election is now necessary and will be held next Tuesday.
Up till yesterday afternoon it would have been possible for one of the six to withdraw and thus avoid the expense of an election; but as.all have decided definitely to stand there is now no alternative but to place the issue before the electors. Any candidate wishing to withdraw must do so not later than five days before the election. The time for withdrawing expired yesterday afternoon. Many people seem in doubt as to who is entitled to vote at an election of a licensing committee, but the position is that all electors on the Parliamentary roll may do so. If more than five names are left on any ballot paper next Tuesday such votes will ho invalid: but any elector may, if he or she chooses, vote for fewer than five candidates. Nominations, which closed last Saturday, are as follow: —W. R. Birnie, O. 'N. Clausen. W. F. Durward, A. .1. Graham, J. M. Johnston,, and P. T. Robinson. With the exception of Mr Robinson, all the candidates are members’ of the present committee.
