NEW ZEALAND BUTTER CONTROL
WELCOMED BY DANISH PRODUCERS. N.Z. PRODUCER TURNING SPECULATOR. Following iB a translation of an article dealing with dairy produce control in New Zealand from a recent issue of the Danish journal, “Maelkeritidende” On the Ist of August, 192 G, the Control Board takes charge, and after that cate no dairy company connected with the control Board will be allowed to sell its butter on its own account. There is to be a quality brand, a fcnlleaf, with the words "New Zealand’’ printed across it, and only butter which is , ; of good enough quality to have reached the grades “choicest.” and "first” grade will bo exported. The idea of establishing this State control is to regulate shipments, so that at any time no more butter is placed on the English market than can be absorbed at once. They reckon thus to be able to stabilise prices and prevent the English merchants from speculating with the New Zealand butter and earning money which ought to be paid to the New Zealand producers. It will really mean that it will be the New Zealand producer who speculates, instead ot the London merchants, and that large portions of the Now Zealand butter will be old when released by Ihe; Control Board on the English market. Under those circumstances it does not appear as if the New Zealand control system will be of any danger to the sale of Danish butter. On the contrary It seems as If competition will be less dangerous.
