NEW OBERAMMERGAU
St. Jerome, village in Quebec, has sprung into fame as the Canadian Obcraramergau, the parish priest. Father Jean d'Avila Ethicr. having produced a Passion Play, in which all the parts are taken by the villagers.
“The Salvation of the World,” as the play is called, is a paraphrase of the Gospel narrative of the Passion, consisting of five acts and twenty-five tableaux, a prologue of three tableaux being devoted to the events of the Annunciation, 'the Birth and the Flight to Egypt. Over 600 people take part. Contrary to the Oberam. mergau tradition, the role of Christ is not taken by a carpenter, but by a solicitor. “Peter” is a tailor’s cutter, “Judas” a meat packer.
