WOODVILLE SALE

The Woodvillo Farmers’ Association opened its new saleyards yesterday. Mr. J. C. Bolton, in declaring the yards open, stated that since the old premises had been condemned, the farmers of the community had , very much felt the want of saleyards. with the result that they decided to erect yards on their own account under the auspices of the Woodville Farmers’ Association Ltd. The result of this work could be seen in the up-to-date and convenient yards just completed. Mr. Bolton stated that Messrs. Wright. Stephenson and Co Ltd., had taken a lease of the yards, and would in future conduct fortnightly sales. In conclusion, he stressed the point of the farmers giving the yards all the support they possibly could. Wright, Stephenson and Co. Ltd., in opening the sale, paid a high compliment to the Woodvillo farmers in having the enterprise to erect yards on their own account. The auctioneers report a most successful sale. A good yarding of all classes of stock came forward, and there was a very large attendance present. All classes met with a ready sale. Sheep were in strong demand, lambs selling particularly well, and with the exception of a few rams, we made a total clearance at prices well above recent sales. Cattle also met with a good sale, and sold well up to late rates. The yarding of pigs rather exceeded the demand ,and although some of the lots were passed under the hammer, we afterwards sold practically the whole offering at satisfactory prices. Following are the prices: Sheep.—2-th wethers 22/7; fat ewes 20/-; store ewes 12/- to 14/-; fat 2thS 25/7; rape lambs 18/- (shorn) 16/9; cull lambs 7/8 to 9/-; w.f. lambs (good) 20/9; medium 12/10 to 14/3.
