WHEAT GROWERS’ DECISION. [Per Press Association.! ASHBURTON, Last Night. A conference of 110 delegates reptesenting wheat growers in all parts of Canterbury, was held here to-day. The problems of growers were discussed at great length, particularly as regards the ciuestion of Import duties on wheat and flour. The chairman (Mr. John Brown) president of tho mid - Canterbury executive of the Farmers’ Union said a good deal hinged on tho proposal to increase duties. It had been sugpested that tho conference to-day would agree to control with prices increased to 7/3. The sugegsted prices, 7/2, 7/4 and 7/6. would mean an increase of £2 to £2 10/-, but the Minister had stated definitely that he could not agree to control at prices above those of the May agreement. If they had free trade with duties, there would be no embargo. After the moving of the motion and the testing of several amendments and alterations, it was finally decided: “That ae the Government will not extend contol after this season, there be a free market this year. It is further decided to ask for an additional pound per ton duty on imported flour.”
