[From Our Own Correspondent.] House accommodation lias been taxed to the utmost .during the holidays and tents aro more popular than ever. The weather is ideal and the tennis court is always fully occupied. The road out to the breakers is -in perfect condition and tb)s makes it possible to take cars quite near to the surf, where the bathing is delightful. At least two ladies have had the misfortune to lose a dental plate in the breakers; one waa : recovered by people digging for plpis about two hours after it was lost. The inner beach £s particularly good for bathing this year, i When the tide is in the children live there, and owing to a sand bar having formed near the mouth of the river, a safe bathing pool is availr able, even when the tide is out. The dances, progressive five hundred and children’s evenings at tha; hall are well patronised. i ‘ i > The lending library' has supplied a long-felt want.- ! A detachment of Central and Longburn Boy Scouts numbering 21, undeir the charge of Scoutmaster T. Vasey and Hr. W. Mllgate, assistant S-M., fs having a right royal time at the beach. The boys have been under canvas since December 29 and will break comp on January 9. A programme of training and sports is being carried out. All camp duties, together with cooking, is being done by the boys, who are also working for proficiency badges, three having passed through second class tests. A camp fire concert is held each night. “Reveille’’ is at 0.30 and “lights out’’ sounds at 9.30. v The All Saints’ troops under Scoutmaster Coles, is also under canvas. The Girl Guides are also in camp near the Sanatorium road. Mrs. Vasey the captain, assisted by Miss Bennett, are in command. Three troops, numbering 13, are under canvas. A programme of training Is being carried out, all the camp duties being done by the Guides. On Wednesday afternoon ,a cricket match was played between tbe Guides and Scouts, resulting In a win for the Scouts by 67 to 51 runs, the Scouts bowling under arm and playing lefthanded. The health of the boys and girls has been good throughout.
