HOROWHENUA A. AND P. ASSOCIATION
NOTABLE IMPRO YEMEN TS TO LEVIN SHOWGROUNDS. ENTRIES CLOSE t)N TUESDAY FOR SHOW. In pursuance ct a progressive policy decided upon under the presidency of Mr S. A. Broadbelt the Horowhenua A. and P. Association has lately carried out considerable improvements to the showgrounds at I Levin In readiness for the show to be (held on Tuesday and Wednesday, January 4 26th and 27th. A "Times" I representative, while In Levin this week, paid a visit to the grounds and ‘was very impressed with the great changes that have taken place within the past few moijths. Starting at the .north-western corner of the Showgrounds, and under the trees, a new
series of sheep-pens has been constructed for a distance of approxi. mately 150 yards. The pig-shed has been moved from its old site, and is now in course of ereotlon to the left of the sheep pens and also under the trees.
Immediately In front of the sheep pens a long cattle shed has been built, containing 26 stalls. This structure was previously the gabled roof cattle shed standing at the other end o fthe ground, and has been sawn in two, making one long leanto building, having concrete and wooden piles and Jarrah uprights in the front. The old cattle pens, beyond repair and now demolished, have been re. placed by four new skeleton catHe sheds running at right angles to the previously-mentioned shed. jA.ll four sheds have concrete pile foundations and the remainder of the work incorporated in their erection is of a permanent character. Later, when the necessary funds are available these four sheds will be roofed. Each of these contains 24 stalls, which means there will be accommodation for about 120 head of cattle, while, no doubt, it will be necessary, In view of the coming show, to erect temporary pens that will accommodate a further 60 to 80 head of stock. A concrete wash is to be put down, and troughs for watering the stock will be Installed in addition to several other minor improvements which have not been in existence hitherto. All these new and desirable features are a splendid incentive for breeders and exhibitors to patronise the forthcoming show, where their stock will be well-housed and every provision made for their well-being. Entries for the show close on Tuesday next, January 12th, Schedules will be sent on application to the secretary, Levin.
