Sales Begin Well, But Not Maintained FAT CATTLE HOLD THEIR VALUES BEST [Per Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, Lost Night. At the Addington market, the yardirigs were generally smaller than last week and, the easing in prices wo« maintained. Store sheep.—Bidding was slow and good-eonditioned wethers were hard to sell, prices consequently dropping about 2/6 a head below those of last week. Values of ewes and lambs, however, were well maintained. Aged ewes and lambs made 16/10 to 20/-, sound-mouthed ewes and lambs 26/6, two-toothed wethers, 22/5 to 24/4, forward four and six-toothed wethera 28/1 to 30/8; four and six-toothed wethers, 26/1 to 27/11, inferior rour, six and eight-toothed wethers, 24/8 to 25/6. ~ Fat lambs.—The entry totalled 440 head, as against 600 last week. The sale commenced well, but as it progressed, values dropped. On thi average, however, they were about on par with those of last week. Prices per lb. ranged from 9d to lOd. Values, pere: Prime lambs, 32/6 to 35/10. ordinary lambs, 29/- to 32/-, light lambs, 22/6 to 28/-. Pat sheep.—Eight well-filled race* were forward in the fat sheep sectloa including more plainer sheep than usual. Although prices at the beginning of the sales were equal with lata rates halfway through the auction the market slipped back to the extent of 1/- a head, particularly in respect of lighter classes. Extra prim® wethers realised 37/- to 41/-, prim#, 33/- to 36/6, medium, 30/6 to 82/6, light, 27/6 to 29/9, prime ewes 27/*, to 30/6, medium, 24/- to 26/6, light* 21/- to 23/6„ inferior, 17/- to 20/-. Fat cattle. —The entry of fat cattle amounted to close on 520 head, including a larger proportion of cows than lisual. For all good classes of beef, the market was sound at last week’s prices, values being a shade better for best steer beef. Prim® medium-weight beef sold at 46/6 td. 4 9/6 a lOOlbs, extra, to 51/-, prime heavy, 43/- to 46/-, medium, 38/- «»■ 41/-, light and inferior 34/- to 37/8, and rough cattle, down to 25/-. Extra prime heavy-weight steers brought up to £24 7/6, prime heavy, £l9. to £2l 17/6, prime medium-weight, £lB 10/- to £2O, medium. £ls to £ls. light, ill to £ls, extra prime heifer#, to £l7 12/6 prime, £l2 10/- to £l4, medium, £9 to £l2 5/-, light prime cows, to £l4 12/6, prime £ll 7/6 td ±l3, ordinary, £9 to £ll, light, £5 to £8 15'/-. Vealcrs. —A smaller yarding of vealers than last week’s resulted in values recovering the easing recorded at that sale. Runners fetched to £B, good vealers, £6 5/-, nnjf.ium. vealers, £4 to £5 15/-, inferior, £2 to. £3 15/-, calves, 15/- to 42/6. Store cattle.—A full yarding met with a good demand .especially id view of the easing in neof prices. Three and four-year-old steers made £ll, throe-year-old, £9 15/-. heifers, up to £4 5/-, good cows, to £5 7/6, young cows, £3, bulls, Up to £8 10/-. Dairy cattle. —Only 33 head were penned. Keen competition resulted, in an advance on late rates of about £2 a head, best second, third ana fourth calvers (springing) brought £S to £ll 10/-, medium sorts, £5 to £7 10/-, best heifers (springing) £9 to £9 10/-, others, £3 to £5 10/-, old cows, £3 to £5. Pat pigs.—A medium entry sold at late rates. Choppers fetched £3 to £6 13/-, light baconers, £4 5/- to £4 15/-, heavy baconers, £5 to £5 10/-, extra heavy baconers. to £6 16/(average price nor lb. 8d to 9d), light porkers, 55/- to 65/-, heavy porkers, 70/- to 74/-, (average price per lb. 84d to 94d). Store pigs.—A fairly large entry resulted in late rates being maintained. Weancrs, 23/- to 29/-. extra good sorts, to 34/-, slips 30/- to 36/-, small stores, 38/- to 43/-. medium, stores 45/- to 49/-, large Stores, £8 15/- to £3 5/-, JOHNSONVIDLE SALE. Messrs. Abraham and William*,; Ltd., and Wright Stephenson and Co. Ltd. report on their Johnsonville sale held yesterday: A smaller yarding than usual came forward, but quality throughout was very good. The sale 1 right through was dull and lifeless, sheep prices receding fully 7/- to &/- per head and bullocks 30/- to £2 per head. Values at Johnsonville ara siderably below prices ruling in thef country. We quote: Prime wethers, woolly 36/-; shorn, 23/-, 24/-, 27/-, 28/-; ewes, woolly 33/-; shorn, 18/-, 20/- 22/-.
