SHIFTING THE FOUNTAIN
COUNCIL CONSIDERS COST TOO HIGH. Tho Borough Council last evening received a. tender of £243 for shifting and re-ercction of the fountain in tho Square, that occupies a position in front of the new soldiers’ memorial. The Borough engineer’s estimate of the work was £2BO, but the opinion of the Council generally was that the cost was too much. Cr. Edwards suggested that the work could be done dheaper by day labour and that if this was agreed to, it w’ould alleviate some of the unemployment of the town. Or. Oram moved that In view of the large cost of the work, the engineer report further, to the works committee. The Mayor stated that It was necessary to shift the fountain in order to allow of the soldiers’ memorial scheme being completed. Or. Pitzherbert seconded the. mo" tion which -was agreed to.
