SHOP VERANDAHS

IIV RESIDENTIAL AREAS. With reference to the erection of verandahs, the Borough solicitor wrote to tho Palmerston North Borough Council last evening, stating that there is no power to compel owners erecting shops to set back the building so that the verandah shall be built on the owner’s property, but as the streets are vested in the Council it can prohibit the erection of any verandah across or over the footpath. —lt was resolved that in future each application for permission to erect a shop with verandah attached in the residential area be referred to the works committee, and be considered on its merits.
