STOLE FROM HIS HOST
GUTS ONE MONTH AS PUNISHMENT. Henry Albert Pinniger stayed awhile with Richard Lovegrove, and while there stole £5 from under the mattress of his host. When arrested later, he said that the note had becfci given him in mis. take for a ten shilling one. “Both men had been drinking,” said Detective-Sergeant Quirke, when Pin. niger appeared before Messrs. A. J. Qrdham and C. H. Espiner, J.s’P., at the Palmerston North Police Court yesterday on a charge of theft. Ac. cused, he said, had a list .of previous convictions ,aud this was not his first appearance for theft.
"He could have been charged with theft from a dwelling-house, and brought before the Supreme Court," said the Sergeant. Accused was convicted and sentenced to one month’s imprisonment, while on a charge of being found drunk on the railway station he was convicted and discharged.
