Terrible north-easterly gales struck the east coast, accompanied by heavy fails of snow. A Scottish drifter foundered at Flamborough Head The lifeboat was launched, but failed to save the eight aboard. Eight others were drowned at Redcar, where a small motor ship was driven on the rocks in sight of a big crowd on the shore. Numerous other casualties are re ported.
