FOXTON

WELCOME HOME. [From Our Own Correspondent.! Mr'. and Mrs. J. K. Hornblow arrived back in Foxton on Tuesday evening after a tour of the world extending over a period of eight months. On arrival they were met by the Mayor, and about 30 residents and representatives of the Borough Council. Chamber of Commerce, School committee, Racing Club, Plunket Society and various other bodies. As the car came to a standstill three hearty cheers were given for the world-trippers and at the invitation of the Mayor, those assembled adjourned to Perreau's rooms for a cup of coffee. In welcoming Mr. and Mrs. Hornblow, Mr. Perreau expressed the pleasure of all those present at the safe return, of their townsfolk and q.t the benefit the trip had been to both in the matter of health. his country in matters that pertained to educational, hosiptal and municipal affairs and a great deal of his time had unselfishly been given up to looking into these questions so that the town and the whole district would benefit very greatly by the knowledge and experience he had gained while visiting the different countries abroad. A toast to the guests was then honoured with the singing of “They are Jolly Good Fellows.” Mr. Hornblow, in reply, thanked those present for the very kindly reception given to Mrs. Hornblow and himself. He had enjoyed the trip immensely, but was very glad to be home. Mr. Hornblow gave brief sketches of the countries visited. He said he was Impressed with the tact that those countries who flew the • Union .Tack” wore far and away the best to live in. Councillor Woods extended a welcome home on behalf of the Borough Council. Rev. W. H. Walton (Bowling Club), Mr. D. Christie (Horticultural Society), Mr. A. E. Admore (Chamber of Commerce) and Mr. Wilson for Moutoa residents. A vote of thanks was accorded the Mayor and Mayoress for their hospitality. Tennis Notes. A team from the Levin Club will visit the Foxton courts on Saturday next. The following local team has been picked to play. —Ladies. Mrs. McMurray, Misses Owen. Perreau, J. McMurray,, B. Perryman. . Wlnstanley will regret to learn that he is at present an inmate of the Palmerston North Hospital. A local bandsman (Mr. J. Colder) has been appointed to play solo euphonium with the Feilding Band at the Dunedin Exhibition band contest, which takes place in February next. _
