SEAMEN AND DEPORTATION ISSUE. [By Electric Cable —Copyright.] [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] (Received Tuesday, 11.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, November 24. The seamen decided not to take any drastic action at present in regard to showing their disapproval of the deportation of Walsh and Johnson. Attempts by the extreme element, led by Messrs. Casey and Lyons to have all ships declared “black’’ in the event of the deportations were defeated by the moderates. A motion that delegates be appointed to wait upon the Trades and Labour Council with a view to ascertaining what assistance would be forthcoming in the event of a. strike being declared, was carried almost unanimously. At the new conference of strikers and owners, the latter submitted certain terms for the settlement of the dispute, but a general meeting of seamen rejected them. A meeting of the Victorian branch of the Seamen’s Union decided tiiat in the event of the High Court deciding against Walsh and Johnson, a special stop-work meeting be called to consider what action should be taken.
