BOTH CANTERBURY COLLEGIANS

I Per Pro's ■AKsnciat'nn.-T DUNEDIN, Last Night. The Rhodes scholar appointees chosen by the committee of selection to-day are M. Barak, B.Sc., and C. E.' Low, 8.A., both of Canterbury College. TWO REMARKABLE RECORDS, MR. C. E. LOW, B.'A. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. Mr. C. E. Low, has had a very distinguished scholastic and .athletic career at Canterbury College, where lie is at present lecturer in French. He gained his B.A. degree with honours in Latin and French. He is one of the most brilliant Latin and French students ever turned out of Christchurch Boys’ High School, which he left in 1921. At school, he was a member of the first Rugby fifteen and school champion in swimming and atheletics. He continued his sporting successes at Canterbury College, gaining his blue for football and athletics. Mr. Low was a member of the Canterbury prlvlncial athletic team In 1924. He is 21 years of age. Mr. M. Barak, B.Sc.

Mr. M. Barak’s record shows a career of outstanding merit, both ia learning ,and sport. He is twenty-one years old and was educated at Warea primary school (Taranaki), the New Plymouth Boys’ High School and Canterbury College. His career at New Plymouth Boys’ High School was a briliant one, he being first in his form during the five years that he was at school, as well as winning various other prizes. He also won junior and senior national scholarships. In 192.1 he was dux of the School, winning a University national scholarship. Mr. Barak also took a prominent part in the sporting life of the school, being a member of various shooting and football teams. On coming to Canterbury College in 1922, ho continued his career in both spheres. In 1923 he carried off the College prize in pure mathematics and in the following year he gained College prizes in applied mechanics and advanced physics. In 1924 he completed his B.Sc., gaining College and Haydon prizes in phvsics. He also gained the Sir George Grey Scholarship of that year in chemistry and physics.
