“THE CREATION.”

TO-NIGHT AT OPERA HOUSE. The full rehearsal of Haydn’s grand oratorio. “The Creation,” by the Palmerston North Choral Society, last night was a splendid success. The soloists especially distinguished themselves. Particularly beautiful were the trios “Most Beautiful Appear,” “The Lord is Great,” and “On Thee Each Living Soul Awaits.” In these numbers the artists’ voices blend most musically. The duet “Graceful Consort.” sung by Madame Amy Woodward and Mr. William Watters is a gem and was sung most splendidly. Madame Amy Woodward was in especially good voice and charmed all. Mr. Watters sang the famous solo "Rolling in Foaming Billows,” in his fine style, while Mr. Arthur Ripley earned the reputation of being the best tenor the Society has yet had assisting it. The orchestra interpreted the rural numbers in an artistic manner and the chorus showed evidence of long and careful training. The most striking numbers were “The Heavens are Calling” and “Achieved is the Glorious Work;” while the final chorus “Sing the Lord” fittingly brings the whole oratorio to a climax. We have no hesitation in recommending to-night’s performance as a worthy one and up to the best traditions pf the Choral Society.
