MOCK COURT.
LAM* CLERKS IN LIGHT MOOD. Last evening the Palmerston North Law Clerks’ Association abandoned its usual debate and lecture and staged a case in divorce. His Honour Mr. Justice, Sometimes (Mr. T. M. N. Rodgers) presided. The petitioner was Innocence Eve Bliss (characterised by Mr. C. H. F. Goldfinch) and the respondent. I Upset Bliss (Mr. M. Strange). Mr. Casey Brief (Mr. Sharman) appeared for the petitioner and Mr. Gibtung (Mr. A. Muirhead) for the respondent. His Honour expressed pleasure that there were no criminal cases down for trial. From the evidence of the petitioner it appeared that the marriage was a most unhappy one, and this evidence was corroborated by two other witnesses. The defence was a denial of cruelty .and the respondent filed a cross-petition seeking a divorce on the same grounds. After a great amount of conflicting evidence was heard. Counsel addressed the Court. After His Honour had briefly summed up the jury retired for three minutes and returned a verdict for petitioner. “The decree nisi” may be made absolute in three months.” said His Honour. Costs on the highest scale were allowed. * The trial, which was preceded by a dinner at the Broadway lounge, provided a most enjoyable evening.
