Increased imports of raisins correspond with the period for which the different provinces had adopted prohibition, Mr. Robb (Minister of Finance) said in the Commons, when commenting on figures which ho had been asked for in connection with the Canadian-Australian trade pact. He said that in 1914 Canada had imported twenty-four million pounds of raisins. In 1919, the yearly Imports jumped to thirty-foup million pounds and in 1924, .they stood at thirty-eight million pounds. Mr. Robb stated that now Australian raisins had been made duty free, the Commonwealth could compete with the world, no matter whether there was an increase In the duty on dried fruits from any other country or not.
