AT HOME AND A WAV. Only one Soccer match was played at North Street Park on Saturday, when R.S.A. met Rangers in a very even encounter. Although the former team won 3—l it was a wonder that Rangers did not run the score closer, or even triumph over their opponents, os the play was more divided In its honours than the score would lead one to believe. As it was, Rangers led one to nil at half-time, but were overtaken In the second spell, and the
issue was placed beyond doubt in the last few minutes of play. Crow was responsible for placing Rangers one up, and the first -half concluded with no - alteration to this. Soon after resuming, however, Balgent evened up, and then West broke down the defence and added another, placing the Soldiers in the lead. With Rangers attacking strongly, the Soldiers turned the tide of attack, and propelled the ball right through the posts, but the goal was not allowed. Not to be denied, however, the Soldiers had another try immediately after, and this time made no error, Balgent shooting his second for the day, the score thus ending 3-—l. Mr J. Davidson controlled the game. ST. ANDREW’S (3) v. POXTON (1) One of the biggest crowds Easton Park, Poxton, has held, gathered on Saturday for the match between St Andrew’s, and Poxton, the home team being beaten 3—l. St. Andrew’s kicked off with the sun to their hades, and .forced the pace for the commencement. Bell, centre forward, and Olsen, left-back were prominent in play for the aggressive faction: The latter, however, met with some oppostlon after tho first twenty minutes, Ship, the home goalie, proving a particularly valuable man. making several good saves. There was a good deal of give and take and just before half-time Kennedy broke through and scored for the visitors. In tho second half, Travers; who caused some dissatisfaction on tho field, was ordered off. but although reduced to ten men, the seasiders fought valiantly. They were unable, to score, however, and the Saints proved i little too much for them, 801 l adding another to the score, placed the Saints two in the lead.
