Thompson and Hansen had completed the top portion and Mcssi-s Podjursky and Cooksley the b*ttom portion of Burke’s drain while Messrs. Reid and Wilson had completed the maih drain and the portion of the Foxton line drain and would have the top portion completed in :about a week’s time. Mr. McCafthy would have the boundary drain completed that day. Mr. Stein had done about 90 chains of Whiskey creek. Walker and Voss were well up in Dixon’s property and in about another week they would be out." Good progress was being made in the main drain, but the Manawatu river rose, so he had to shift the men into Burke’s drain. Mr. Moore had the stop bank over the flooddoor completed and turfcij on both sides. The overseer drew the Board’s attention to fences being down and the cattle allowed to go on the drain banks on the Kairanga - Bunnythorpe, road causing damage to the drain. Correspondence. A request for a refund of £3 paid as a deposit on a contract was received from Mr. C. P. Blase. He pointed out that he had been misled as regards the nature of the bottom portion of the drain. —Request refused. The Public Works Department wrote stating that if was unable to supply the particulars relating to the main drains, as requested by the Board.

That no settlement could be arrived at between their clients, Messrs. Toagu,. and Croad, and Mr. Kearins, was the information received from Messrs Cooper, Rapley and Rutherford.

Mr. Hearing waited on the Board and explained what he had/done and Mr. Small stated that he thought the matter had been settled, but ho was convinced that Mr. Kearins had done his fair share and that it was up to Messrs. Teague and Croad to do their work.

It was decided to inform the writers that the Board considered Mr. Kearins has done all he was expected to do and that Messrs. Teague and Croad would be expected to clear the remaining part of the drain. A request was received rvr'm Mr. W. Jones, Kauwhata, asking TT/ac tno drain adjoining his property be given some attention, as it had not been cleared for five’ years.—The work will be attended to in due course. Messrs Jickell and Gilmour invited members to inspect the floodgate on the new drain of the Makerua Drainage Board. The writers stated that the work would be suitable for the Board’s proposal at Burke’s drain, — It was decided that the Board would avail itself of the invitation on May 15.

Mr. A. J. Passey, No. 4 Bine, Kairanga, asked the Board to take over the drain running through the settlement. He pointe'd out that it carried water from a very large area while the drainage from McKenzie’s Road was also carried.—lt was decided to inform the writer that v th«. Board could not take over the dram but should the drain be cleaned to the satisfaction of the Board it would possibly make some allowance.

The Kairanga County Council wrote stating that it would be prepared to increase the reward offered for the information leading to convictions of persons throwing benzine tiins on the county roads, provided that the Board bear half the cost. The suggestion was accepted.

A letter was received from Mr. H. Hands, Palmerston North, advising that the cleaning out of the creek passing through his property at Maugawhata had not been attended to. — It was the Board’s opinion that the settlers interested should take steps to raise a special loan to make a good Job of the creek and the Board would then consider taking it over.

Kates Struck, It was decided to strike the following general rates for the year 1925 — 26: Class A, |d; Class B, 24/50d; Class C, 15/60d. Accounts amounting to £697 7/7 were passed for payment.
