WEST END SCHOOL.
The West End school committee met last evening. Present: .Messrs C. H. Whitehead (in the chair), W. E. Presnell, J. B. Proud, A. Penketh, A. E. Blackbourn, E. Newth, H. E. Mouldy. G. Lyne (secretary), and A. W. Thompson (headmaster). The Education Board intimated that Miss G. D. Ketemeyer had been appointed a probationer on the staff of the school; and confirmed the appointment of Miss P. Cressvell to the position of assistant teacher. The West End Tennis Club pointed out that they had had rather a bad time financially, and asked for a reduction in the rent of the courts (£5). —The committee agreed to forego the whole of the £5. The West End Old Pupils’ Hockey Club asked for the use of the school to hold a social: also the use of a room once a month for meetings. —Granted.
The headmaster reported that the school ro-opened on April 20th with a roll of 3PS. The daily attendance was exceptionally good, and the pupils had settled down to work in splendid style. Miss Cresswell had commenced work as assistant teacher and Miss Retemeyc.r as probationer. Miss A. H. Hall was unfortunately prevented by Illness I'Bom taking up her duties as teacher.
A supply of firewood was ordered for the winter months. Messrs Lyne and Presnell were appointed visiting committee for the mouth.
