No further cases of infantile paralysis have been reported to the Palmerston North Hospital authorities during the past twenty-four hours. The quarterly session of the Supreme Court commences in Palmerston North this morning before His Honour, Mr Justice Reed. There is less criminal and civil business than usual, but it is anticipated that the sitting will last a fortnight. It is only a matter of time before there will be a division of New Zea. land Rugby Unions into first and second class powers, states an enthusiast, For that reason, the amalgamation of Manawatu and Horowhonua Is highly desirable if they do not wish to be relegated to Rugby oblivion. At last night's meeting of the Manawalu Hockey Association, a member was importuning another to play in the men’s competitions. “If I do, I shall lose my scat on the committee,” said the young democrat, the annual general meeting having passed a motion excluding players from seats on the executive.

When the question of the dimensions of a certain drain was brought up at a meeting of the Manawatu Drainage Board held yesterday, a member exclaimed: “I’d swear on a stack of Bibles as high as this room, that they are as wide as they were when erected.” For a time the members of the Board were unable to discuss the matter.

At to-day's meeting of the Lunch Club. Mr Herbert A. Seifert will tel’ somp aspects of the “Colour Question,” which so vitally concerns the world, and more particularly the Southern Hemisphere. The lecturer will deal with the question as to whether the increasing power of coloured peoples affects civilisation. Mr A. E. Mander will be chairman.

Passing through many tracts of country not served by the cream collector, or on farms lying off his route, even in many cases awaiting his arrival. the traveller is struck! by the number of cans of cream lying ex posed to the heat of the blazing sun. If the butter control will insist upon such stands being well covered they will at least have effected one farreaching though simple improvement. When a lad of 16 years was charged at the Palmerston North Court yesterday with breaking two by-laws, and ordered to pay a certain amount, the S.M. also murmured something about “fourteen days,” The consternation of one kind-hearted old gentleman in a gallery seat- at this supposedly harsh treatment was soon dispelled, when, upon conferring with a reportei', he was informed that the fourteen days was not a term of imprisonment in dofault of the fine, but the period given in which to pay It. Two beautiful evening displays featuring fascinating frocks and evening wear fabrics arc attracting attention day and night at Palmerston's Fashion Centre. Ladles are invited to view those exclusive models and novelty fabrics before window displays are changed, and also to inspect wider selections available in Showrooms and Dress Department. The C. M.
