The House of Commons agreed to the financial resolution increasing the amount of loans under the Trade Facilities Act, for which Government guarantees may be given for from sixty-five to seventy millions sterling. Commander Hilton Young suggested the appointment of a committee endowed with initiative, to work in conjunction with the Colonial Office and deal with Dominions development schemes. In this connection, some disappointment prevailed. The Hon. W. E. Guinness pointed out that the Colonial Office had a representative on the Dominion committee. He thought the disappointing results were duo to the fact that the facilities were not fully appreciated in the Dominions from whom it was hoped applications would now come. On being questioned in connection with the Government’s decision regarding the draft report of the committee appointed by the late Government on the organisation of Empire wireless, Sir W. Mitchell Thomson post master-general, replied that he nad decided upon changes in organisation, including the establishment of a separate branch to administer overseas cables and wireless. The changes had already been given effect to.
