THE WEATHER

Present indications are for strong and squally south-westerly winds veering to south.easterlies southward of New Plymouth and Castlepoint and to north-easterlies shortly to the northwards. Cold, changeable ana showery weather may he expected, and heavy showers in the Hast Coast districts. The barometer is rising in the south, but will b e falling shortly in the north. T&h present unsettlement is due to a westerly depression, which has intensified considerably since passing eastward to the Chatham Islands. There is also evidence of the development of a disturbance to the north-east of New Zealand, which further makes the outlook unpromising. _____
