WEST COAST PROGRESS

DEMAND FOR BULLER GORGE EXTENSION. [Per Press Association.] WESTPORT, East Night. A meeting of the executive of the Buller Progress League to-night was addressed by Mr. Barry, representing the Duller Sawmill Company, formea at Blenheim, who urged the League--* support in Inducing the Government to expedlate the extension of the Duller Gorge railway eleven miles beyond Cascade Creek, towards which the work is now progressing. Mr Barry said hi s company had taken up a considerable area of land and expected in twelve months time to be able to produce 150,000 feet of timber per annum. If the Government wished to take the railway across this land, his company would be agreeable to dedicate the area required free of charge, and to give the Government a guarantee of transport of timber by railway. He could place a good business proposition before the Government, and believed other companies would be formed to turn to business purposes on the eleven miles intervening between Cascade Creek and his company's property.

The Buller League welcomed Mr Barry’s company and decided to call a special meeting of the League next, week to support the request.
