'XMAS TREE AT LONGBURN

On Saturday evening, a Christmas tree was held in connection with Longburn Methodist Sunday School. The Church was beautifully decorated with flowers and shrubs and a well stocked Christmas tree, the arrangements being in the capable hands of Meedames Zurcher, Clark, Mellor and Guthrie, and Mr Dobson. Longburn friends entered heartily into the spirit of tho function,, and rendered cheerful assistance to the Committee. The result was that the kiddies had the time of their lives. To see tho look of dejight on their faces as they surrounded the tree was sufficient reward for the willing work and generous gifts of the people. Each child received a toy from the Christmas tree, and when all were supplied, there were still toys unclaimed, hidden among the shadowy recesses of the dimly lit tree. The need for electric light in the building is very pronounced. During the evening two boys marched into the building bearing a Christmas hamper for Mrs Peat. Little Jean Clark delighted the audience with her recitations. Musical items were rendered by the Misses Scadden, Hodder, Burch and by the Rev. H. T. Peat and master Will Aldersley. Mr Marchant electrified the children as a ventriloquist, “Pat" proving? a source of unalloyed delight. Longburn children will not soon forget the Christmas of 1924.
