(From, Our Own Correspondent.) The prize giving ceremony at the local school took place on Thursday last. Mr W. J. Amies (chairman of committee) presiding. A number of visitors and members of the committee were present. Special prizes for progress and attendance were won by the following: Standard G: Jack Ligugins; Standard 5: Tom Major; Stand, ard 4: Claude Hurst; Standard 3: Fred White; Standard 2: Olive Me. Lean: Standard 1: Athol Arnott. Handsome prizes donated by 'Messrs G. H. Bennett and Co., were won by Evelyn Hancox, most popular girt; and Jack Liggins, most popular boy. Each pupil in the school received a handsome gift’ book. Ten pupils sat for the proficiency examination, eight were successful, and on® gained a competency. Profiicencv pupils: Alex Thompson, Charles Trenkner, Jack Liggins, Nicolas Rowe, Evelyn Hancox, Mavis West, Lilly Hurst. Florence McGee. Competency: Robert Parker, Clu'istmas Treat. The annual Christmas treat hold under the ausaceg of the Methodist Sunday School Stock place on Friday evening, when at large crowd of children—young and old —thoroughly enjoyed themselves, leather Christmas was present, and everyone received a gift. Rev. Neal gave an address on Christmas and aprogramme of must, cal and vocal Items was carried out. Much of the success of the evening was due to the energies of Mr A. Glover (superintendent of the Sunday School) Mrs Glover and the teachers. Haymaking. Hay making operations were in full swing at the beginning of last week when the wet weather set in. Farmers recognise the value of a good rain at this time of the year, but are hoping it will keep fine for a few days now in order that the hay crops may be saved.
