FEILDING V, SPRINGVALE. STRINGER DEFEATS CHAMPION GOSS. During the week-end members ofi the Spring-vale (Wanganui) Golf Club visited Feilding and played members of the home team on the links at Aorangi. The most interesting contest of the games was that between J'. Goss, June., the New Zealand amateur champion, and H. G. Stringer, wherein the local enthusiast won the round with 4 up and 3 to play. Even though Stringer was playing on his home course, his defeat of the New Zealand champion was undoubtedly a very fine performance, and the result was greeted with all-round congratulations. Stringer, who was playing consistently and putting strongly, was one up at the ninth hole, having taken 38 to 39. For the following six holes, when the game ended at 4 up and 3, Stringer took 25 —one over tours —a total of G 3 for 15 holes. Had the remaining three holes been played out, Stringer’s card for the course would have been worth looking at. Goss played a steady game up to the end of the first round, but appeared to lose confidence when Stringer increased his lead. Tijo other games were closely contested, Feilding winning the singles by one game, and the foursome matches ended all square.
