Sir Robert Ropner, the shipbuilder, left £3,615,000. The estate duties amount to £1,468,000. Ropner was born in Prussia. His parents intended bim for the Lutheran Ministry, but he stowed away and landed in England penniless and friendless. He entered the employment of a shipping office, and nineteen years later, became sole owner of its fleet.
