HALCOMBE.
(From our own Correspondent.) A meeting of the Horticultural Society was held on Friday evening, *Alr. W. Fergusson presiding over a goon attendance of members. A lengthy discussion took place on the cost or the tables, considering the timber for making them had been given free. The balance-sheet was read from the last show. The income was £2B 10/9, expenses £24 11/8, balance £3 19/1. Mr. Mitchell moved that a rose show be held on Wednesday, December 5.- seconded by Mr. W. Bryant, and carried.
A rose bowl is also to be offered for the champion bloom. It was decided to canvass members of the different churches to procure funds for same. Stalls are to be held as at other shows The expenses of the shows, which had been held, caused considerable discussion, but as Mr. Faulding stated, a new concern always found tire first attempts the hardest. Now that the society had its own fittings, etc., they would find expenses much lighter, and no doubt, a bigger balance would be shown. A hearty vote of thanks to the judges was passed, and the secretary was instructed to write to same. Honorable Mr. D. H. Guthrie is to be asked to open the rose show The committee is to meet next Wednesday. The work of laying down the school tennis court by the contractor, Mr. Paul Sterne, is progressing favourably. The public tennis courts are to be enlarged, and the work of building a new court is in progress.
