DEPLORABLE INEFFICIENCY.

Mr Bowden, Minister of Defence, in speaking at the Anzac range, paid a tribute to the rifle shooting and reviewed defence problems generally. He said Australia would not revert to the old system and contribute to the Imperial Navy. That was a reactionary He said Australia was not prepared in defensive matters. The coast line was in a deplorable condition and the lack of efficiency in the Australian fleet was staggering.
