HALCOMBE.
I (From our own Correspondent) Mr D. Managh left to.day for Chrii?i church, where he will compete in the I motor sports at Sockburn on Labour Day. He has entered for four races, ' and, with his new machine, an "In- ' dian," should be in the money. He is accompanied by Mr R. Anderson, who will act as starter for him. The son of Mr Par.sons, of Stanway, arrived home yesterday. He has been in the public hospital at Palmerston North for four weeks, with a fractured leg, but is progressing favourably. Next Sunday, at the Presbyterian Church, is children's day. There will be a morning and afternoon service, conducted by the Rev. Climie. Mrs Sullivan, who has been spending a holiday with relations, returned to Wellington an Monday. Two young men who went to Australia, who are residents here, state that employment is even harder to get there thaw in New Zealand. The freezing works, being ever so much later opening, has stopped a good few butchers from going. Something like twenty returned last week.
