KIWITEA COUNTY.

On Tuesday last, an inspection 01 bridges in the northern riding of the Kiwitea County took place. At an early hour in the morning, Crs. L. 1. 'McLean (chairman), Shaw, Wood ana Morton, Mr. Sladden( consulting: engineer), the two county overseers ana the county clerk started off on the tour, proceeding to the upper Kawhatau Valley, wher e they inspected the Pourangaki Bridge and the Twin Bridges, and in the afternoon inspected the Mangarere suspension torragt. over the Rangilikei River near Mangaweka. The party then proceeded t 0 Ruahine( where it inspected the Papanui Bridge over Boatswains creek, and then went on to the Karewarewa Bridge. The Papanui Bridge is to be renewed next autumn,, and meanwhile a temporary crossing has been provided for the use of settlers, who were experiencing difficulties owing to their being unable to use trie bridge proper. Following this, the party proceeded to Mangaweka ana came on to Waituna through Pakihlkura Most of the bridges were foun<" to be in a satisfactory condition, and the consulting engineer will deliver a comprehensive report on the trip at a forthcoming meeting of the council. Yesterday, the consulting engineer, together with Cr Morton and the assistant overseer, inspected the bridge* in the Pakihikura riding and to-day Mr. Sladden is to layout additional plots at the Rangiwahia Cemetery.
