DISTRICT NURSE.
GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETff>. The general committee of the Feilaing district nurse fund met on Tuesday afternoon, Mr. J. S. Tingey (Mayor) presiding. A letter was received from Messrs. Mclntyre anu Taylor, solicitors, intimating that tho late Mrs. Cleary had bequeathed * sum of about £2OO to the district nurso fund. The nurse reported that in Aitguai she had visited 29 families, making 179 visits, and in September she had visited 20 families, making 162 visits. These visits did not include distress cases. Donations had been received as follows: Clothing, Manchesterstreet; meat, Mr. Collier and Mr. 'Mann; eggs, Mrs. Pack; cakes, St. John's Tennis Club.
The chairman said the nurse has visited some people who could afford to pay. Whenever such families weru visited, they were expected to pay ror the nurse's services. The district nurse was not in competition with other professional nurses who were earning their Mving in th e town. Tho secretary was authorised to send a letter of thanks to the Feilding Band for having given an afternoon programme in aid of trie fund. The secretary reported- on the amount of travelling which the nurse was being called on to Undertake. It wa3 really more than was reasonable, seeing the nurse had to cycle to the places she visited. Some of the calls came from up to four miles outside the borough boundary. The committee should consider providing better means of transport.
Mrs. Fox said that seeing the committee had the £2OO from Mrs. Cleary's estate, which they would not have got otherwise, that money should be used to purchase a motorcar. Mrs. Fox proposed a motion to that effect which was seconded by the 17ev Petrie, and carried, the chairman and secretary being authorised to arrange for the purchase of a suitable vehicle. It was further agreed that the total running expenses of the car should bo borne by the committee.
The Rev. Petrie mentioned that in connection with the sp'rltual- healing mission, about 90 patients from Feilding were to b e taken to Palmerston North for one day, while the mission was being held there. Mr. Petrie asked that the district nurse might be given permission to go with the patients, to assist. The nurse had expressed her willingness. Many of them were now being visited by the nurse.—Permission was given.
