In the Limerick Shipping Company case, Admiral Clarkaon gave evidence that he had come to the conclusion that the Scott-Fell Company could handle transport work at a cheaper rate than the Commonwealth authorities. That influenced him in allowing the company to run the Emerald Wings and Bronze Wings. Witness denied the evidence of a previous witness that the latter mentioned to him anything about the manipulation of these boats. He said, "Had he done so. he would have gone out of office pretty quickly, and would not have come back."
Dr. Earl Page laid the foundation stone of an important electrical power scheme, by which the waters of the Uymboida River will be harnessed to supply light and power to a number of leading north coast district townships. The week's wool sales closed with all the best features of the opening sale maintained. Best fleece wools were particularly in strong demand. Japanese competition was increasingly keen. Greasy Merino touched 3Old. The hearing has commenced of a case in which Doctor George Stanley Thompson is claiming £SOOO damages for alleged libel from the "Medical Journal of Australia," as the outcome of comments on the case of Mrs Farr. At Tamworth, the Chinese Soccer team defeated New England district, by 9 to nil. There was a lengthy debate in the Assembly on Mr Basrnall's adjournment motion to discuss Puddifoot'S sentence for the murder of a child Some strong comments were made on the inadequancy of the sentence, and the need for stringent legislation to deal with sexual crime. Attempt's to comment on the action of the judge who tried tho case were checked. The Attorney.Cieneral, after reading a report from the judge, explaining the reasons on which the sentence was awarded, announced that Cabinet and .Bar had discussed the question of the treatment of sexual offenders and perverts, and intended introducing legislation dealing with the matter, which would minimise tho danger of allowing them to remain at large.
