DANNEVIRKE TAKES AN

EXAMPLE. FROM PALMERSTON NORTH BOROUGH. Early yesterday morning, a' party consisting of the Mayor, the foreman of works, and nine members of the Lannevirke Borough Council, arrived in Palnierston North for a tour of inspection of the road construction work at present proceeding in the Borough. It"is proposed to lay a bituminous sur. face in the main thoroughfare in Dannevirke, and through its rcpu'ntion for excellent street's, Palmcrston North was chosen as the example to follow when this work is undertaken. Under the escort of the Borough engineer (Mr ,1. R, Hughes), the party was conveyed on an extensive inspection of all street- works which are at present being executed in the Borough, and the streets that had been done with the special far macadam process. Tho plant for the preparation of the tar excited a great deal of interest among the visitors. Information as CO the cost of the work, the material required, and other technical details were supplied to the visitors, who returned to Danncvirko late in the afternoon, expressing'their gratitude to the engineer for his readiness to place everything so comprehensively before them.
