WHOLESALE QUOTATIONS, '•TIMES” OFFICE, Friday night. A a a result of the fine weather during the last week or ten clays, farmers •will welaome a few showers in order to push along the growth, not only of grass, but of seeds which have been sown. Ploughing work is being pushed on rapidly, and heavy Bowings should be made this month. This wiE have the tendency" to strengthen seed markets, and merchants who are stocked up will welcome changed conditions. Markets generally have shown an all round change during the past week. Potatoes show the most startling change, and during the week have ad-
vanced approximately 20/ per ton on f o.b. south values, white potatoes to. day being worth up to £lO f.0.b., sacks in. As practically the whole of the North Island is drawing on the southern supplies, this firmness no doubt will continue. As farmers are still busy ploughing, chaff has been neglected. No doubt, next week, when the farmers’ work cases off a little, chaffcutting w’ill be resumed, and “plentiful supplies coming on the market will tend to ease values. The southern market shows a decidedly weaker tone. Fowl -wheat is soaring rapidly, and at several ports in the South Island prices are up to 5/2 and 5/3 f 0.b., sacks extra. It is hard to say whether these values will be maintained. Oats have also shown much more life during the past week, prices having advanced at least 2d per bushel, with a much firmer market in view. Hay is still in demand although the quality available is very small. Other markets remain much the same as last week.
