SHIPPING BOARD.
FAVOURABLY REPORTED ON
(Prom our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Last Night.
A recommendation to the Government regarding the establishment of a Mercantile Shipping Board was made by the Agricultural and Pastoral Committee to-day, as follow: “The Committee having had submitted to it a scheme proposed by the New Zealand Farmers* Union, and the New Zealand Producers’ Committee for the establishment of a Mercantile Shipping Board, is of the opinion that the heavy charges for freight made by the shipping companies are acting prejudicially to the industries of the Dominion and’ recommends that the scheme be referred to the Government for consideration. The committee further recommends that the Prime Minister, on his visit to England, should investigate the proposals relating to an Empire development fund and tho possibility of obtaining a part of it to assist the industries of the Dominion in the matter of shipping.” Mr. Massey informed the house that he would do his very best to comply with the recommendation.
