DOMINION CHAMPIONS. MACCORMACK WINS HEAVYWEIGHT BELT. SIX CHOSEN FOR AUSTRALIA. [Per Press Association.] DUNEDIN, Last Night. The boxing contests for the New Zealand championships concluded in His Majesty’s Theatre to.night, Mr L. Humphreys was referee. In the Featherweight final, C. Purdy (Auckland), 8.113, defeated T. Armstrong (Christchurch), 8.12. The [Aucklander had t'he better of the close fighting, and out-boxed his opponent at long range. In the Fly-weight final, J. Deckio (Otago), 7.4, defeated P. Lennon (Otago) i 7.5. Leckie forced the fighting and connected repeatedly with lefts and rights.
The Welter.weighc final was -won by L. McDonald (Otago), 10.5, who debeated J. Nelson (Greymouth, IfcS. This was a close contest, Nelson making McDonald fight all the way. In the final for the light-weight bolt, P. Pascoo (Greymouth), 9.8, defeated T. Harris (Otago), 9.11. This was an unattractive exhibition, caused mainly through Pasooo’s tactics in boring in for a clinch. In the middle-weight final, L. O'Neill (Greymouth) defeated A. McDonald (Otago), ll’.O. Both men exchanged heavy blows, but O'Neill was slighllj superior. In the heavy-weight final,. H. MacCormack (Christchurch), 12.8, defeated J. Swinord (North Otago), 12.0. Mac Cormack won comfortably. The light.heavy-weight final was won bv A. Firth (Auckland) 11.12 who defeated J. G. Leckie (Southland). 11.10. Firth displayed clever footwork, and did most of the leading. In an uninteresting exhibition bout, C. Campbell, 8.8, defeated W. G. Leckie, 8.9. AUSTRALASIA CANDIDATES. The referee (Mr. Humpreys), Mr. W G. Atack (representing the New Zealand Boxing Council) and th« judges met at the conclusion of tin* tournament to select the New Zealand representatives to take part in the Australasian championships, to bo held in. Melbourne. The following were selected; Bantam weight, T. •Griffiths (Dunedin): feather weight, C. Purdy (Auckland): lightweight, P. Pascoe (Greymouth); welter weight, L. McDonald (Dunedin); heavy weight, H. McCormack (Christchurch): middle weight, L. O’Neill (Greymouth). It was decided to ask the New Zealand Boxing Council to send the six competitors, or as many as the finances of the Council would permit, the selection committee to decide on the men to go if the Council can only senpi a less number.
