BLENHEIM'S PORT.

[Per Press Association.] BLENHEIM, Last Night. A recent arrival in the Port of Wairau was the ketch Standard, which was purchased in Auckland by Mr. E. K. Eckford,' on behalf of Messrs. E. Eckford and Company for the purpose of fitting up a suction dredge to improve the Opawa River and the Walrau bar for navigation purposes The vessel, which has a register of 12 tons gross, and 9 tons net, had a stormy passage of 14 days' from Auckland. The vessel is expected t'o be ready for dredging purposes in about three weeks. Messrs. Eckford and Company, who maintain the shipping trade between Blenheim and Wellington, anticipate that the dredge will effect a substantial improvement- in the river from the point of view of navigation and indirectly from the point of view of flood relief.
