OBITUARY.
MR RIOHARD EDWARD PEARCE. The death occurred on Thursday 'ast, at his residence, Awahuri Road. Fcilding, of Mr Richard Edward Pcarce, in his 90th year. The late Mr l'earce came to New Zealand in 1840, in the ship Lord William Bentinck. After arrival he followed the occupation of farming in the Hutt Valley, aad in 1855 married a daughter of the late Mr George Hill, who arrived in New Zealand in the ship Arab, in 1841. When the Gabriel Gully gold rush broke out, Mr Pearcc was among others from the Hutt district who tried their fortunes with indifferent success. Following his arrival in Sandon in L 872, he joined the Sandon Small Farmers' Association and helped in the ■onstruction of the main road from Bulls to Sandon, the Taupo and Waitohi and Rongotea roads. Fifteen years ago he retired to Feilding. Mr Pearcc leaves a widow, five sons, two daughters, 19 grandchildren, and eight grcat-grand-children. The sons are, Messrs W. G. (Colyton), A. E '(Waituna West), I. F. (Makino). w' E. and H. A. (Sandon), the daughters being Mrs W. Thompson (Rongotea), and Miss Pearcc '«Feilding) # The burial took place at the Sandon cemetery, the sorv ice being conducted by the Row A. .Mitchell (Methodist). The bearers wore, Messrs E. and N. Pearcc (grandsons), W. T. and M. W. Hunt, and J. Edelsten (nephews), and, H. Tutty (grandson-in-law)_ There were many floral tributes and telegrams of sympathy from friends far and near.
